Chaired by Iliana Portugues, Head of Innovation for the National Grid Electricity Innovation Owner, the event showcased the organisation’s achievements during 2018 and considered priorities for future innovation work.

A member of the FLEXIS Advisory Board, Iliana provides valuable input into the FLEXIS’ electricity transmission work. The National Grid has an interest in the decarbonisation of electricity networks, and researchers at Cardiff University are working closely with them to explore flexibility within Tata Steel Port Talbot, the impact of electric vehicles and gas insulation for the transmission of power.

Prof Haddad also referred to the greater research capacity created for work in these areas through funding organisations such as the EPSRC.
