Lee’s research interests lie in the computational modelling of coupled thermal, hydraulic, chemical and mechanical (THCM) behaviour in the geoenvironment. He is particularly experienced in the study of reactive transport processes in fractured rock in response to high pressure gas injection and displacement. It was in this area that he developed a theoretical and computational modelling platform as part of his doctoral research at the GRC.

Jamie graduated from the University of Glamorgan with a 1st class (Hon’s) in Electronic and Communications engineering. During this time he specialised in embedded systems development and after graduation, spent a number of months as an embedded systems consultant developing hardware and software for an RFID reader before being offered an EPSRC funded Ph.D.

I joined Geoenvironmental Research Center (GRC) in Nov. 2010 and am currently involved in Seren project. SEREN is £10 million European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funded project. I lead the Ground Source Heat pump package and my current primary responsibilities are to ensure effective alignment and address expertise gaps for on-going and new research work and providing strategic leadership and guidance in developing, implementing a coherent research for sustainable intensification in the Ground source heat pump technology for Small and Medium scale enterprises.

Dr Irfan is working in the Geoinformatics work package of the SEREN project. His core areas of research are Spatial Decision Support Systems (SDSS), Web GIS, GeoApps, Geodatabase and spatial analysis. He has recently developed an integrated, multicriteria, spatial decision support system, incorporating environmental, social and public health perspectives, for use in geoenergy and geoenvironmental applications. This system utilises a number of artificial intelligence and multicriteria spatial decision analysis techniques to enhance the effectiveness of the spatial decision making process.

Dr Philip Vardon

Philip graduated in 2005 with a First Class (Hons) MEng degree in Civil Engineering from Cardiff University. During this degree Phil studied all aspects of Civil Engineering, specialising in Environmental Soil Mechanics and Numerical Methods. He was awarded the Lloyds Shipping Register Prize for Structural Engineering during his degree study. His interest in computer programming started during his final year project, which involved producing a piece of software to act as a database, comparison tool and a non-linear regression tool to convert and compare raw data with empirical formulae.

Dr Matthew Turner is a geologist who has experience in a wide range of geological and geoenvironmental disciplines. He has worked in both industry and academia and has experience in project management, business development, modelling, data analysis and interpretation.

Dr. Gummeneni Sagareswar worked as Research Associate in Geoenvironmental Research Centre (GRC), Cardiff School of Engineering. He completed his Masters in Engineering Chemistry from Andhra University, India in 2000. He received his Master of Philosophy degree in Environmental Management from Centre for Environment, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, India in 2002 and PhD in Environmental Science & Technology from Centre for Environment, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in 2008. His PhD was funded by Andhra Pradesh State Pollution Control Board, mainly focused on the development of Online Air Pollution Monitoring Station using Chemical Sensors & Met Sensors by Internet Protocol. After submitting his PhD he was promoted as a Research Associate and transferred to Research & Development Cell, J.N.T.University, India, Where he worked on different Environmental related Consultancy Projects and Cloud Seeding Technology Project which is funded by Government of India.

Dr Daniela Tsaneva

Dr Daniela Tsaneva studied at the University of Ruse, Bulgaria with speciality Computer Science, and graduated in 1992 with MSc in Computer Science, Dipl. Engineer in Electronics, Electro-techniques and Automatics, excellent marks, and medal. Later on between 1996 and 2001 she worked as a lecturer and senior lecturer in the Departments of Informatics and Information Systems at the University of Ruse, Bulgaria. The main subjects she was teaching were Computer Foundations, Programming Algorithms, Programming in Pascal, Internet and Internet services, DOS and Windows, MS Word, MS Excell, MS Power Point, AutoCAD etc. Additionally, she was teaching Computer Science courses for adults, who wanted to improve their qualifications by getting an IT certificate.

Renato is a Research Associate and Work Package Leader in the “Unconventional Gas” of the FLEXIS project aiming to make significant advances beyond state-of-the-art and evaluate the potential of deep lying coal seams for the development of Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) and Coal Bed Methane (CBM). He holds a PhD in Geoenvironmental Engineering, MSc in Mining Engineering and BSc in Geoengineering with over 6 years of experience in various working environment.

Majid is a Research Fellow at the Geoenvironmental Research Centre (GRC). He is a Civil Engineer with an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering. He joined the GRC in 2007 to read for a PhD on coupled THCM processes in unsaturated soils with emphasis on hydro-geochemical behaviour of clays, after receiving the UK Overseas Research Scholarship (ORS).

Dan graduated from Cardiff University in July of 2009 with a MEng in Civil Engineering. The optional aspects of his degree course included environmental and sustainability modules, computational modules, and modules dealing with the constitutive engineering relationships. Additionally, Dan spent a year as a Student Engineer at (Supporta) Bay Associates in Cardiff, a consultant civil and structural engineering firm, for his sandwich placement (Sep-2006 to Aug-2007), earning a LCGI in Civil Engineering in the process.
