Geoenvironmental Research Centre is part of a larger consortium to deliver the innovateUK funded IBESD project along with Bridgend County Borough Council, Hitachi Europe, Cenin Renewables and First Cymru Bus. This project explores opportunities for more efficient use of energy and network infrastructure, and how optimisation of these resources will help deliver benefits to the entire system. The project proposes to explore the feasibility of the integration of heat, electricity and mobility within Bridgend County Borough. The study will also explore the role of digital platforms in these schemes, including the optimisation of energy generation and consumption across different sites, management of EV buses, and how this may lead to the development of a broader smart cities platform for BCBC.
