Professor Paul Meredith

Paul Meredith is a Professor of Materials Physics and Sêr Cymru National Research Chair at Swansea University. He leads the Sustainable Advanced Materials research activities and also the new £50M Centre for Integrative Semiconductor Materials (CISM). He was previously Director of UQ Solar and the Centre for Organic Photonics and Electronics at the University of Queensland in Brisbane until joining Swansea in 2017. Professor Meredith’s research interests centre around new, low embodied energy materials and devices for more sustainable electronics and optoelectronics and has a particular interest in solar energy notably next generation photovoltaics.

In a broader sense, his interests also encompass renewable energy systems, and he was part of the expert panel that designed the now legislated Queensland 50% by 2030 Renewable Energy Target Policy. Professor Meredith has also worked with industry his entire career and founded several start-up companies in the advanced materials space. His current industrial focus is supporting the South Wales semiconductor industry through the CS Connected Cluster. Professor Meredith has been variously recognised for his contributions to science and technology including the Premier of Queensland’s Sustainability Award (2013) and in 2021 was honoured with an OBE for Services to Semiconductor Research and Innovation.
